It’s been ten years since we were first introduced to The Most Serene Republic through their debut album Underwater Cinematographer. The first group not connected to Broken Social Scene to be signed to Arts & Crafts, The Most Serene Republic spent their early days sharing stages with Stars, Metric and BSS, as well as opening for The Strokes on their 2006 Canadian tour. Several releases and international tours later, the band is getting set to release their fourth studio record this fall.
A lot can change in ten years, but by watching TMSR perform together it’s clear that the chemistry between the longtime friends within the band has remained as charming as ever. They’re back together again, and with years of experience they are writing music together through a very different lens. The band recently shared its first release in over 5 years with “Ontario Mornings”, the first taste of their upcoming record Mediac (out November 13th via MapleMusic Recordings.)
They paid us a visit to perform “Ontario Mornings” live in the Collective Arts Black Box, along with “Heavens To Purgatory”, an older tune from their 2009 album …And the Ever Expanding Universe.
