Edmonton based musician and songwriter Jessica Jalbert, otherwise known as Faith Healer, has played on a lot of other peoples’ records over the past ten years. More recently though, she’s been focusing on her own songwriting. Working with some friends and fellow musicians, she released her first solo album, Brother Loyola, in 2011. She’s just released her second solo record, Cosmic Troubles, and joined us in the Black Box to share two new songs from it.
“Infinite Return”
The record was created with the help of Jalbert’s friend and collaborator Renny Wilson, and the entire album was recorded by just the two of them in Wilson’s parents’ basement, but Jalbert emphasizes that Faith Healer is still a proper solo project.
“We both played all the instruments and sang all the harmonies, and he recorded the whole thing… Sometimes I hit record on protools while he played the drums. He came up with a lot of great production ideas! But at the risk of sounding possessive, I wrote all the songs and get to make all the calls.”
